Coupling local and non-local damage evolutions with the Thick Level Set model
It is well known that damage evolution models requires a length to avoid spurious localization. We gather these type of models under the name “non-local damage models”. In fact, non-locality is strictly needed only when the stress-strain curve starts to have a negative slope. Before this point, local models may be used. For instance, when damage exhibits some hardening, the stress-strain curve ...

A Local Branching Approach for the Set Covering Problem
The set covering problem (SCP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. This paper investigates development of a local branching approach for the SCP. This solution strategy is exact in nature, though it is designed to improve the heuristic behavior of the mixed integer programming solver. The algorithm parameters are tuned by design of experiments approach. The proposed method is te...
Subject-level measurement of local cortical coupling
The human cortex is highly folded to allow for a massive expansion of surface area. Notably, the thickness of the cortex strongly depends on cortical topology, with gyral cortex sometimes twice as thick as sulcal cortex. We recently demonstrated that global differences in thickness between gyral and sulcal cortex continue to evolve throughout adolescence. However, human cortical development is ...
Localization Study of a Non-local Energetic Damage Model
The contribution presents an analysis of a rate-independent non-local damage model, recently proposed by Mielke and Roub́ıček (2006). An analytical as well as numerical solution of a simple one-dimensional bifurcation problem is performed, demonstrating that, for the elementary localization test, the model is free of pathological features.
